I just finished testifying before the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future which is studying Bill 9. Bill 9 will make modest reforms to government employee pension plans to make them more financially solvant.
My 3 minute presentation took almost 20 minutes and the hearings where almost shut down due to the room full of screaming unionistas and the one union boss who shoved me.
I went in there not intending to make friends, and I think I succeeded in that. One kindergarten teacher there in support of the union apologized to me and said that she would never accept that kind of behaviour from her children.
It's a sad state of affairs where people cannot reasonably argue liked civilized people in a liberal democracy, but rather, forcefully shut down debate because they just don't like what they're hearing.
Free speech doesn't mean free speech for those you agree with. Free speech is speech for those that you disagree with.
I did have a lot of fun though.
Is Canada Off Track?
Canada has problems. You see them at gas station. You see them at the grocery store. You see them on your taxes.
Is anyone listening to you to find out where you think Canada’s off track and what you think we could do to make things better?
